ABOUT THE COMPANY
NBC began its operations in 1967 when the Government of Tanzania declared itself in all financial institutions, including banks. In 1991, the banking sector was rehabilitated and six years later, in 1997, an institution known as National Commercial Bank, was divided into three separate entities
In 2000, a South African Financial Services Group known as Absa Group Limited acquired a majority stake in NBC.
The government of Tanzania has maintained 30% of the shares and the International Monetary Fund (IFC), a member of the World Bank, took 15% of the shares in the bank the name of the company became NBC Limited
